Studio and Gallery Hire

Our Short Street Studio is an excellent venue and is available for hire for holding solo or group exhibitions, art tutoring or social activities.

 In recent years, we have hosted several exhibitions for Hakatere Ceramics and Pottery, an art auction for Advance Ashburton and a solo exhibition to celebrate an artist’s 80th birthday.

We have two large rooms available to enjoy art in (or hire out).

Patron’s Room

This is typically used for exhbitions.

Heritage Room

This is typically used for exhibitions and studio work.

Short St Studio Features

Kitchen: Fridge, Oven, Zip, Dishwasher, Glasses, Mugs, Plates and Cutlery.

Gallery: Hanging system, moveable wall, plinths, flags and signs, lighting.

Studio: 6 large mobile work tables, 3 large folding tables, 4 small folding tables, 8 large easels, a clean-up sink with hot water, Printing Press, some furniture and objects for life drawing and still life. Chairs with cushions.

Two bathrooms.

Projection, WiFi.

Terms and Conditions

  1. Hirer must be a member of the Ashburton Society of Arts or an affiliated socicty or at the discretion of the Society
  2. Hirer will ensure that the Studio is manned during the entirety of the exhibition/period of hire and that the premises are always left secure.
  3. Hirer will be responsible for all advertising, hanging and displaying and dismantling of any works.
  4. Hirer will ensure that the Studio is cleaned afier the exhibition/period of hire and all rubbish is disposed of. Please take any glass waste away with you. Failure to do so will incur a fee.
  5. Hirer will ensure that all equipment used is cleaned and put away in designated place.
  6. Any damage incurred during the hanging, exhibition of work/period of hire will be at the Hirer’s expense.
  7. Provision of refreshments and catering for the duration of exhibition/period of hire is the full responsibility of the Hirer.
  8. The Hirer is fully responsible for the insurance of the works being exhibited. The Ashburton Society of Arts will in no way be responsible for any damage, theft or harm of the works on display.
  9. The hire of the venue is set at $40 + GST per day or part thereof (including pre and post exhibition days) for members and $60 + GST for non-members and must be paid in full to confirm booking. 
  10. Fees for shorter time frame hires can be negotiated.
  11. The key to the Studio must be returned to custodian on the final day of hire.
