This realism oil painting workshop suits beginners as well as confident artists. Students will learn my complete process for painting ‘Lake Sarah’, a classic lake and mountain scene from deep in the Craigieburn Valley.
Realism oil painting is not as scary as it looks once you know which tools to use and the key steps to take. The goal of this workshop is to familiarise students with all necessary equipment, the wet-on-dry realism painting process and quell any misconceptions.
Through a mix of video, pre-printed canvas and painting with oils, this will be a workshop unlike anything done before. The techniques learned over the workshop can be universally applied to any realism painting.
Sean is a realism oil painter who lives in Christchurch with his wife, Daniella, and three young boys, Leo, James and Beau.
He was a teacher for nearly 20 years with a significant portion of his career dedicated to teaching Art at International Schools in South Africa and Hong Kong. Since returning to Christchurch in 2022, Sean has devoted himself to painting full-time, focusing on the breathtaking landscapes of New Zealand. His fondness for the Arthurs Pass area in Canterbury, where he explored during his youth, is evident in his work.
Sean’s artistic style revolves around landscapes featuring a prominent light source and a captivating atmosphere. His goal is to convey the intricate textures and minute details in a way that allows the viewer to not only see the scene but also experience it. Whether depicting a crisp morning or a sunny afternoon, Sean strives to transport viewers into his paintings, making them feel as though they are present in the moment.
